There is no right or wrong path to becoming a freelance writer. I get approached all the time by writers concerned they don’t have the right college degree or work experience to make it as a freelancer. Don’t worry about it, I tell them. There are probably as many different routes as there are freelancers. Many writers have some of the traditional elements for a freelance career, but others don’t. And few travel the exact same path. Listen in as I chat with my friend Mary Jo Wagner about her journey, which started off traditionally with a journalism degree, and then took her to some interesting jobs in Rome before landing back in North America as a full-time freelancer.
